Mayor Tim C. Taylor, Chief Otha Brown, and City Hall employees recently reflected on the distinguished 12-year tenure of Municipal Court Judge Kamesha Mumford, honoring her dedicated service to the City of Canton and celebrating her recent election to the Mississippi Senate representing District 26.

Judge Mumford has faithfully served as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Canton since 2013, earning widespread respect for her fairness, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to justice. Although now elected to the Mississippi Senate, Judge Mumford will continue serving on the municipal bench through January 5, 2026, ensuring continuity and stability for the court.

During the commemorative moment, Court Services employees Chris Jackson, Tiffany Anthony, Qunitoria Oliver, and Natasha Johnson expressed heartfelt appreciation for Judge Mumford’s leadership, mentorship, and service to the court and community.

Dr. Chuconna Anderson, City Clerk for the City of Canton and a resident of Mississippi Senate District 26, delivered powerful and moving remarks recognizing the broader significance of Judge Mumford’s achievement.

“As a daughter of our historic hometown of Canton, Mississippi, Senator Mumford’s election represents a powerful testament to perseverance, excellence, and service,” Dr. Anderson stated. “Her journey continues to inspire countless young people, and most especially African American young ladies, to believe that leadership, public service, and elected office are attainable through hard work, faith, and determination.”

The event concluded with warm well wishes from Mayor Taylor and the presentation of an official proclamation from the City of Canton, commemorating Judge Mumford’s exemplary judicial service and congratulating her on this historic milestone in public leadership.
